Escape to the Plains Casanare
The Orinoco River – natural limit between Venezuela and Colombia – demark a huge area in Colombia called “Los llanos”, well known for its vast savannahs, gallery forests, and their particular culture. The Meta River is the boundary between the high plains and the floodable grasslands – lower lands that remain flooded most of the year because of the long rainy season–. This area extends until the geographic delimitation by the Eastern Andes, and it is home to more than 700-recorded species of birds. Here, such bird-diversity can only be compared with a beautiful iconic image of a llanos typical sunset over the mirrors of lagoons and estuaries decorated by congregations of fauna that will delight any nature-lover and will make this trip an unforgettable experience. Jabirus, Herons, Ducks, and Jacamars are the main characters in the Colombian Llanos.

This is a fairly standard birding tour with early morning starts and evening finishes to each day. One some days we may take picnic lunches in order to no waste time during the middle of the day or having to leave site. The weather can be unpredictable with rain and sunshine both likely. At higher altitudes it can be chilly. We have an amazing photo opportunity for many species of hummingbirds and other species coming to feeders, we will also be looking for a good number of species that are very rare and seldom seen, but we will be going to areas that hold these sought-after species.
